Asean Peatland Management Initiative & Strategy (APMI & APMS) In 2003 GEC was formally appointed by the ASEAN secretariat to act as the lead partner for the ASEAN Peatland Management Initiative (APMI) with a focus on technical and operational support, which also involved the development of the APMS. In this role GEC has facilitated numerous workshops, meetings and exchanges and also played a key role in generating resources to support development and implementation of the initiative and assisted a few member countries to develop their respective NAPs. In 2005 GEC was appointed by ASEAN countries as the executing agency for the development of a five year project to support the rehabilitation and sustainable management of peatlands in South East Asia with funding from IFAD/GEF.
