Shell Global Solutions Green Zone
As environmental problems become more apparent in today’s world, private sector companies are beginning to realize that they play a big role in the environment. Many are starting to put measures into place to help raise awareness and reduce their impact on the environment.
Shell Global Solutions, situated in the Petronas Twin Towers, is a leading organisation that is part of the Shell Group. The 1-year project began in June 2007. The Green Zone at Shell Global Solutions was established as a place where its staff can learn about the environment and current issues. It is also a central area for recycling. There are different themes each quarter – waste management, climate change, wetlands and mangroves and rivers and water. In addition, there are monthly updates on noticeboards related to the theme that will give something new each month for staff to look out for.
It is hoped that the establishment of a Green Zone in an office environment will help to stimulate interest in the environment and raise awareness about environmental issues within the office. Shell Global Solutions will also be giving back to the environment through their recycling efforts (thus far, they have recycled over 300kg of paper) and it is hoped that this will help to create a more environmentally friendly office and develop into something bigger.
