Greetings everyone! To kick start the first quarter of 2011, we bring you our first quarterly newsletter to help us keep connected with you! In line with our slogan “building partnerships with the environment”, our newsletters will keep updated about our activities and events and how YOU can play a part in saving the environment.

River Carnival a Success!
The 2nd River Carnival under the W.A.T.E.R. Project by GAB Foundation and GEC was held on Sunday, 18 July 2010. Throngs of people and school children crowded SK Sungai Way as early as 8am to register for the games and check out the carnival booths! Read more >>

Workshop on Peatland Fire Prediction & Warning
The workshop was held in Kuala Lumpur on 13-14th July 2010. It was a successful event attended by more than 60 experts and representatives from the field. Presentations and working groups focused on current warning systems and how the system could be strengthened. Read more >>

Community Study Trip to Penang
GEC's Sahabat Hutan Bakau (SHB) group from Kuala Gula, Perak went on a study trip to Penang on 17 & 18 July 2010. This study trip gave the SHB an opportunity to learn and explore opportunities from other proactive communities. Read more >>

Canal Blocking @ Raja Musa Forest Reserve
Now that we've got the reforestation component going through our bi-monthly tree planting activities, we've started focusing our efforts on keeping the water levels up and restoring the hydrology of the peat swamp! On June 26 and July 3rd, a committed group of strong volunteers helped to build a mini dam to block one of the drainage canals. Read more >>

Opportunity to help harvest marcots
Join us on Saturday, August 14 to harvest marcots for tree planting! We've had a lot of interest in the marcots, so we thought we'd let everyone have the opportunity to help us harvest them! Our usual Saturday planting will then be held on Sunday, August 15.

CIMB Ecosave 3R Awareness Campaign
GEC will be running a 3R awareness project with Sunway University College as one of CIMB Ecosave's environmental activities for the year. Upcoming activities include a No Styrofoam Day on August 11 and an Eco Bazaar on August 17-18.

GEC's old banners gets upcycled!
GEC is exploring a partnership with a local handmade brand to upcycle our used banners into cool, new products like wallets, tote bags, coasters and storage bins! A portion of the sales will be donated to GEC's Forest Care Fund so stay tuned for further details!
