Greetings everyone!
To kick start the beginning of 2013, we bring you our last year quarterly newsletter to help us keep connected with you ! On the world stage, the COP18 UNFCCC had taken place from 26 Nov - 8 Dec 2012 in Doha, Qatar. In the local front, we at GEC continue with our activities and events and we wish to highlight some of our activities that have taken place from October to December 2012.

GEF-NGO Network : 43rd GEF Council Meeting
|
The 43rd GEF Council Meeting was held in Washington DC from 13 – 15 November 2012 and GEC's Director, Mr. Faizal Parish who is the current Central Focal Point of GEF-NGO Network had played a key role in the meeting.

| River Care Programme : Local Community Initiative Training |
|
The Local Community Initiative Training on the 9th September 2012 was conducted for interested KRT Jln P.Ramlee to start their soap and candle initiative. The soap and candle from used cooking oil, composting and garbage enzyme hands -on activities was facilitated by the HSBC Volunteers with GEC’s guide. Read more >>

Peatlands Programme : Peatland Assesment in Myanmar
|
The peatland areas in Myanmar have not been adequately explored and identified, due to various reasons. In order to conserve its peatlands, existing peat areas would have to be confirmed first. To this end, a peat assessment survey was held in Shan State from 10 to 12 December 2012. Read more >>

Peatlands Programme : Peatlands Meeting in Pontianak, Indonesia
In November 2012, 40 representatives from both ASEAN Peatland Forest Project (APFP) and SEApeat projects convened in Mercure Hotel Pontianak, Indonesia for their respective project steering committee meetings.

Tree planting in Raja Musa Forest Reserve
|
|
|
|
In November 2012, several tree planting events were held in Raja Musa Forest Reserve. It was kicked off with planting by Peatland Forest Rangers on the 1 Nov where 1600 trees were planted. On the 3 Nov 2012, 120 students from Sunway University planted 215 trees and also carried out potting of seedlings and weeding. The tree planting event in November was complemented by two companies, IngPharm Sdn Bhd. and Asia Capital Reinsurance (M) Sdn Bhd on 3 Nov and 4 Nov respectively as part of their CSR activities. In total, 350 trees were planted by the 140 staffs of the two companies.
