Farewell 2011 and welcome 2012! It has been 6 days since we enter a brand new year. Some of us are probably on a mission to accomplish new resolution and some of us are still taking a pause, taking a step back to look at what have been accomplished last year and planning what and where we would like to improve for this year. As for GEC – we have made great strides in 2011. Our commitment towards conserving the environment has never fade and was apparent through our activities. Here are some of the highlights of our activities for the last quarter of 2011:

| U Minh Thoung National Park |

| |
|
U Minh Thoung Natiomal Park (UMTNP) is recognised as one of the places that has highest biodiversity values in Mekong Delta and is in a peatland area. This definitely shows that peatland areas are habitats for unique flora and fauna that contribute significantly to our global biodiversity gene pool. In addition, it is one of the best management peatland sites in Southeast Asia.
Hence, our Peat Team and country partners visited this national park on November 4th, 2011 to build capacity and information sharing. The knowledge gained and shared will be adopted in our peatland rehabilitation sites in Southeast Asia that are currently funded by European Union, International Fund Agricultural Development and Global Environment Facility.
